Special Olympics

When Ty turned 8 he was allowed to participate in Special Olympics. He loves being part of a team so this has been great for him. His first competition was "basketball skills". They had a parade of athletes and an opening ceremony. It was really hard to control my emotions as I was looking around and realizing that this is our life...! He had a great time and we are all very proud of him.

Getting his bronze medal was the best! He was so proud of himself, he ran out there like he owned the place.

Shot Put & Discus

In track, Kaitlyn decided to throw. She has had 2 meets. They have to try out for each meet and they only take the top three girls. She qualified for both meets in both events as the top seat. The first meet she got 2nd in the discus. Her second meet she got 3rd in the shot put and 3rd in the discus.

She is throwing farther each time. She was mad at herself after the 2nd meet because she could have had 2nd place in the discus but she scratched 2 times (it landed right on the line) and her third throw wasn't very good. She is getting the hang of it for sure. She really is good at just about anything that she tries!

Pinewood Derby

One of the great things about Cub Scouts is the Pinewood Derby! When Blue and I started talking about helping Ty with his car I suggested flying my Dad down to help...he has it down to a science. Blue didn't quite think that was a great idea. He wasn't sure that a Pinewood Derby race was worth $350! So Blue (and Ty) built his car and I helped with the decoration. He seemed to have a great time, he was pretty excited about the race but if you ask him if he had fun he says, "No, I lost!". He came in first in his first race and then got second in the next 2 races. Blue really thought that Ty would not care if he won or lost but Blue apparently was WRONG! He was not happy! Blue missed the whole thing because he was out of town for work. Darn it!

Houston Rodeo and Tim McGraw

Some friends and I had a girls night last night and went to the Rodeo to see Tim McGraw. What a great concert...he really is awesome! I knew the words to every song except for his new single. I really am a country girl!

I was totally impressed with him...he walked all the way around the arena shaking hands and giving high fives. I kept watching to see if he would walk up and us some hand sanitizer when he got done, but he didn't....must not be a germaphobe.

We had a great time!

Then...

when I got home, this is what I found as I walked in the door...

Rose pedals that led from the door to a bouquet of flowers and then to Blue. WOW! Blue is not known for being all that romantic so this took me totally by surprise. You out did yourself this time honey! I love you!

I must be the luckiest girl alive!

Cabo San Lucas

The weather in Houston has been so cold lately that when some friends called and said that they were planning a getaway to somewhere warm we happily jumped on the band wagon...or the plane! Los Cabos was absolutely beautiful. We had a great time site seeing, eating and just laying on the beach and by the pool.

We went with the Richard's while the Boyer's went on an "Outdoor Adventure Tour" and took a private boat out on the ocean to see the whales. It was great! We saw whales, sea lions and dolphins. I have never been on the ocean before so this was a new experience for me. I ended up with my head over the side of the boat puking. I did keep a smile on my face though. The guide made me feel better by telling me that me puking is what brought the dolphins...

I would do it all over again...but with dramamine.

We ate dinner at this really cool resort that was built into the mountain. The view was amazing.

Thanks Mom for coming and staying with the kids! They had a great time! We love you!

Dinner in the Penthouse

I had to copy this from my friend Stacy's Blog...but will add my 2 cents...

BLUE YOU ARE THE MAN!

At this point in the trip, we've had an amazing dinner on a cliff and spent a day boating next to whales and have assumed that we have experienced the best Cabo has to offer. We were looking forward to relaxing by the pool and finding a decent place to eat.

York had gone off to nap and Blue had decided to work out in the gym. Sherlyn and I were laying by the pool talking about the last few things we needed to do before we left. At the top of the list was watching the sunset. I had been looking up at the top of our hotel at some beautiful flowers and some awnings, wondering what was up there and thinking it would be a great place to view the sunset. Blue came by and I casually mentioned to him that he needed to figure out how to get us up there, thinking he would find a staircase or something. He left, leaving us with no indication of doing what I'd asked.

A few minutes later he came back telling me to go tell York that he'd gotten us dinner in the penthouse and we had to decide quick if we were in or out and to meet us in his room so we could order our dinners. I was freaking out a little thinking York was going to kill me when he saw the bill for the penhouse and a little worried about what I'd gotten myself into.

I ran to tell York and suprisingly enough, he agreed! I've got to get this man on vacation more often!

We then met the chef himself in the Jenkins' room where we placed our orders. The chef and our very own waiter met us a little later in the penthouse, waiting on us hand and foot.

What we didn't know, aside from being a completely cool experience, was that it would be the best meal we'd have the entire trip. I will be dreaming about that dinner for the rest of my life.

The lesson to learn from this is...JUST ASK! We asked our waiter if they rented the penthouse out for dinner often, and he said we were the first.
